Terry has been delighting audiences with her unique interpretation of belly dance for years She started with the critically acclaimed Dream Dancers under the tutelage of Deann Adams. Eagerly anticipated at festivals like Rakkasah this group accompanied by Light Rain performed at sold out houses like the Oz, Great American Music Hall and Bimbos, all posh nightclubs in S.F. This group transitioned seamlessly in the spring and summer months from cabaret entertainment to an outdoor festival show, touring the state gigging at state and county fairs and at art festivals.
Inspired by these performances Terry continued to work in the finest Middle Eastern dinner houses and nightclubs in S.F. and L.A. with engagements and contracts lasting the life of the club and multiple owners. Her thousands of bookings range from small family gatherings to convention sized weddings! Performing up to five shows a night at venues as diverse as Red and White Yacht on S.F. Bay to the Bohemian Club. She was honored to open for some of the leaders of the Arab entertainment world, legends like Sabah, Warda, Shadi Sameel,Wadi el Safi, Sabah Fakri and Nouram Hanna, as well as Contemporary singers like Walid Toufic, George Wassouf and Ragheb Alame. All this while having the pleasure of working regular shows with the finest musicians in the S.F. Bay area.
Terry has entertained foreign dignitaries, prestigious business leaders, and TV and sports celebrities. Memorable performances include dancing for industry greats like Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Shirley MacClain and Nicholas Cage. A special Honor was the opportunity to perform for King Hussein and Queen Nour and other members of Arab royalty in one of the King's last trips to America before his death in 1995. A big joy and pleasure in her performing continues to be the invitations she receives from the many familys in the the San Francisco Bay Area who include her in their family celebrations year after year. |
Terry has taught in and around the S.F. Bay Area for the 15 years. In 2005 Terry was invited to teach at World DanceFitness. Owners Dhyanis and Aruna offer a varied curriculum as well as host world renowned master instructors for the students at WDF.
She has studied and continues to study from the most respected dance instructors in America and abroad. Her formal education includes extensive study in a multitude of bodywork and movement disciplines. Feldenkrais, Alexander, traditional physical therapy, clinical anatomy to name a few as well as multiple dance forms since childhood.Terry has been employed in outpatient health care settings for 20 years and brings her intimacy with the body to her teaching.
As a dance instructor Terry generally likes to avoid long-winded verbal explanations and gives corrections as general comments, unless it compromises dancer safety to keep the tempo of class progressing.The physical challenges in class set the stage for students to learn a technically and musically rich, as well as culturally significant repertoire of dances from Terry's teaching compositions. Fondly referred to by her students as a drill sergeant and one of the best kept secrets in the S.F. Bay Area; described by her peers as one of the hardest working dancers around, Terry offers quality instruction to the discriminating dancer.
Terry was the featured workshop instructor at the final Festival Fantasia held in Sebastopol, Ca. in 2004. Most recently, Terry was invited to teach, perform and judge at Queen of the Bay II Dance Competition 2007. |
